Markham Martial Arts (MMA) is a professionally run Martial Arts Facility in Markham, Ontario featuring programs in all major aspects of self-defense, fighting and fitness. Our classes are created to facilitate both children and adults of all ages and skill levels.
We have some of the most qualified trainers in the world, specializing in Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

Programs

Kids Program (Ages 7-14)

Our youth program at Markham Martial Arts is broken down into three components. The focus is teaching the fundamental skills of Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Boxing. Not only will they work individually on forms, shadowboxing and bag work, but partner driven drills with their peers can help foster camaraderie, as it encourages kids to pair off and build their techniques together. This will aid in the development of your child's social skills and how to cooperate and understand team behaviour.

Fight Fit & HIIT

Our Fight Fit & HIIT program is designed to help our members achieve their fitness goals, by implementing rigorous and high intensity drills. The class is designed to elevate your cardiovascular workout to another level, as you push your pace out of your comfort zone.
Our classes are conducted in a group setting creating a fun and energetic team atmosphere!
The Fight Fit & HIIT class is a great addition to your fitness regime, and for increased benefits can be combined with our Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Boxing programs to gain an all-encompassing fitness experience.

Muay Thai (Adults)

At Markham Martial Arts our Fundamentals class will focus on developing proper stance and rhythm, through shadowboxing and practicing simple footwork. Learning the various Muay Thai guards and basic strikes using punches, kicks, elbows and knees. Our Technical class will concentrate on pad and mitt work and teaching advanced striking methods such as clinch, dumps, sweeps, knees and elbows. Students will perform Interactive partner drills and have the opportunity to put their skills into application with technical sparring.

Kickboxing (Adults)

The Fundamentals class will focus on fight stance, guard, basic footwork, punches and kicks. Our Technical class will offer an in depth and advanced look at heavy hands strikes and kicks. Partnered drills will be used to focus on building powerful punch combinations ending with strong low kicks. Repetitive drilling is an excellent way of building power and stamina and developing timing and distance. Our advanced students will participate in controlled sparring sessions, where they can implement their skills against an opponent to help foster each other's growth.

Boxing (Adults)

Boxing may look intimidating, but it doesn't have to feel that way. Our Fundamentals class helps nurture and build students skills by placing focus on basic techniques. We begin with learning the boxing stance, footwork and how to control and pace your breathing as you prepare to throw combinations. From there students will learn to jab, cross, hook, uppercut, slip and duck. Our Technical class will focus on developing more complex hand combinations and footwork. Students will further refine their boxing skills through partner drills, using pads and mitts to execute their strikes. Seasoned students will participate in technical sparring allowing them to put their skills into play.

  • You will be tested extensively both mentally and physically, are you ready to undergo this challenge?

If you are a student at Markham Martial Arts who has been training regularly at an intermediate to advanced level and are interested in taking your love and passion into the ring, you must first communicate to your coach your desire to compete. Your coach will determine if you are ready to train for an amateur fight, and is the only person properly equipped to guide and prepare you with the necessary training required for competition. Please speak with our Team and we will do what it takes to get you fight ready and in the ring!

Instructor

Kru Christopher Williams

Owner and Head Instructor

Behind every champion is a trainer, and behind every trainer is the heart and soul of a champion. Christopher aka “Killa” aka “Professor Williams” was born on the small Caribbean island of Trinidad & Tobago. Growing up in Trinidad, he spent all his leisurely time playing sports. One of his favorite pastimes was watching historic boxing matches with his father.

The Williams family later relocated to the Bronx, New York. Following their move, Kru Chris’ father enrolled him in boxing classes at the local YMCA as a means of self-defense to protect himself living in a rough neighborhood, and to keep him out of the street lifestyle. Countless hours were spent at the YMCA trying to emulate his idols, Roberto Duran and Mike Tyson. It wasn’t until his move to Scarborough, Ontario where he was introduced and fell in love with Muay Thai. From that moment on, a passion was ignited and lifelong devotion to the sport began.

Fast forward to the present day; Kru Chris has achieved many accolades in Muay Thai, most notably becoming a 4-time North American champion. He has lived and fought in Thailand, accumulated over 50+ fights in countries including Canada, United States, Mexico, and Panama. He established himself as one of the most notable fighters and coaches in the Canadian Muay Thai community. This was further solidified by being recognized in Canada as the “2016 Best Pro Fighter,” which coincidentally was the year of his retirement from his fighting career. While training to become one of North America’s prominent fighters, Kru Chris also pursued his interest in coaching becoming one of the youngest Muay Thai practitioners in Canada to receive the title of Kru (teacher). He has helped develop some of the best fighters in Ontario including, Amin Almelik, Elijah Halliday, Ferdaws Nayimi and many other WKA, TBA, IKF, WKF and MTO champions.

Kru Chris’ enthusiasm and dedication for teaching led him to pursue his dream of opening his own training facility, Markham Martial Arts. His goal and focus are to spread the love and passion he has for Muay Thai to all his students.
